Nurturing Through Nature
I have many loves but one thing that I am head over heels in love with is nature. I have a deep passion for nature. My father helped instill this love in me and I will forever be grateful to him for that.
Growing up, I have fond memories of countless nature walks, nature drives, and camping trips that my dad took me and our family on. There was always a peaceful serenity that I felt in my heart during these excursions. I still feel this same way today as my husband and I take our own family to experience nature.
When I was young and went on these walks, drives, and camped, I didn’t at the time realize that these actions were helping instill a love for nature in me. Perhaps because we always had a garden, chickens, and other animals or maybe because I was always permitted to go outdoors to play (we lived around woods and trails), those too, influenced my love for nature as well. I always loved animals and I felt a special kind of peace during my time in nature growing up. I often spent a majority of the time in nature just daydreaming about my future and life in general but as I journeyed into my adult years and began having a family of my own, the seeds that were planted while growing up around nature grew into my passion for nature and only became stronger as time went by. I still daydream while I am out in nature, and I realize now that is what it does for me. Nature helps me to focus and dream in a way I cannot anywhere else. It helps me to experience clarity and to receive answers.
When I am in nature, it seems to encompass a balance of needs for me including nurturing my mind, body, and spirit. I leave always feeling invigorated, refreshed, and alive. The beauty of God’s creations that we get to experience on this incredible earth never cease to amaze me. If we just take the time to look at and absorb it all in, I feel it truly is therapy to one’s body and soul.
Because I love to share something that I am very passionate about and that I know will be of benefit to others, I naturally want to share my love for nature with my children. I want to continue leaving a legacy that my father gave me. My desire and hopes when my own family was young were that my children would also develop a passion for nature, truly appreciate the beauty, and experience the blessings that we can receive from allowing ourselves to be engrossed within. Those desires and hopes came true as our family (most of them) are big nature lovers.
I am fortunate in that I get to homeschool our children and Nature Study is one “subject” that I don’t want my children to go without. In fact, I feel it is one of the most important things that they get to experience and learn about. I look forward to our daily nature walks and adventures. Because nature is so important to me and my family as my kids thrive in nature, I started a homeschool nature school/club several years ago and it was the best decision ever! We have truly enjoyed getting together with other families to hike, play, explore, and learn together. We have also made some amazing friends in doing so.
Nature has always been my sanctuary, my teacher, and my reminder of what truly matters. Passing that love on to my children—and now to others—has been one of my greatest joys. Every walk, every sunrise, every breath of fresh air is more than just time outside; it’s an invitation to slow down, reconnect, and realign with what is essential.
When we root ourselves and our families in nature, we’re nurturing wellness, resilience, and joy that ripple into every part of life. For me, sharing this rhythm with my children has been one of the most meaningful parts of motherhood. It reminds me that when we nurture our own souls in simple, grounding ways, we empower our families to thrive too.
My hope is that you, too, will step outside, breathe deeply, and let nature nurture you. These simple rhythms have the power to bring clarity, peace, and purpose—not just for us, but for the generations we’re raising. May you find your own sacred rhythms in nature, and let them guide you toward a life that feels whole, grounded, and alive.
